HERITAGE PRESERVATION

Architectural Services - Preservation

Adaptive Reuse.jpg

We specialize in architectural designs that treat historic properties according to national, state, and local standards.  Most often this involves the adaptive re-use of a building, including additions, collectively referred to as “rehabilitation”, but our specialty also includes the preservation, restoration and reconstruction treatments.  We enjoy making your historic property serve modern needs and yet still retaining the historic status of the property.

Historic Resource Studies

Valentine Diner.jpg

Often required for development approval, we can provide the research and prepare Historic Resource Studies (Cultural Resource Studies) for your project including HABS documentation when required.  These studies generally seek to understand the significance and integrity of a potentially historic property, to understand any impacts proposed by the work, and to understand what alternatives could be deployed to eliminate or mitigate any negative impacts.  We have prepared studies that have been used to satisfy national, state, and local requirements.

National Register of Historic Places

Flagstaff from Mars Hilll.jpg

The National Register of Historic Places is the official list of the Nation's historic places worthy of preservation.  Listed properties are given consideration in planning for Federal, Federally licensed, and Federally assisted projects, certain tax provisions, and qualification for Federal grants.  While property owners can prepare their own nominations, often it is easier and faster to have the nomination professionally prepared.
